Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe

(click images for full photos and descriptions)

Pecos Bill is a counter-service restaurant located in Frontierland in Magic Kingdom. It has a cozy western atmosphere and plenty of indoor seating. Sorry for the blurriness of the photos, it was a little dark and I didn’t have the right settings on my camera!

Ordering

Pecos Bill has two ways you can order.

The first way is with the handy-dandy “express ordering”. How this works is you walk yourself on up to one of the touch screen booths where you will be presented with your menu you choices. Once you’ve completed your order you can pay via a credit card, room charges, or the Disney Dining Plan. The second way is the regular counter-service way of walking up and using real human interaction to place your order. Crazy, I know.

The express ordering will also be featured in the Be Our Guest at lunch time when the restaurant is counter-service.

Menu

It’s a pretty typical comfort food menu, nothing fancy here. Here are your options!

BBQ Pork Sandwich, 1/3-Pound Cheeseburger, Deluxe 1/3-Pound Angus Cheeseburger (topped with bacon, onion rings, and barbeque sauce), Vegetable Burger, Caesar Salad with Chicken, Taco Salad, Chilled Chicken Wrap.

Sides: Chili Cheese Fries, French Fries, Chili, Corn on the Cob

Dessert: Strawberry Yogurt, Chocolate or Carrot Cake

Drinks include soft drinks, juice, milk, coffee, and hot drinks.

Kids can choose from Hamburger, Turkey Sandwich, and Peanut Butter & Jelly.

There’s a full condiment or “fixin’s” bar included with all sorts of toppings from ketchup and mustard to sauteed onions, pickles, etc.

The Food

I ordered the BBQ Pork Sandwich with a side of corn on the cob and the person I was with ordered the vegetable burger with french fries.

The sandwich had tender pork and a tangy sauce on a hearty bun and I ate my corn plain without any salt or butter and I enjoyed it. I wouldn’t rave about it, but it was definitely satisfying, just a good tasty sandwich to fill you up in middle of a long park day.

I had a taste of the vegetable burger and it was pretty good, but there’s better veggie burgers to be had at Disney like the Black Bean Vegetable Burger at Liberty Inn at Epcot (review on that to come!). I think Disney offers up delicious french fries, they’re always crispy and yummy anywhere you get them.

The Verdict

I think if you’re in the market for some filling, but simple grub, you can’t go wrong with grabbing something from Pecos Bill. It won’t be a daring culinary experience, but it’s good food and I enjoyed the coziness of it.

Every time I eat here I can’t help but marvel at the technology that existed in 1878, to order food via touch-screen. I use them just like the cowboys of old did.

OK, I’m being snarky. But in reality, I do love those touch-screens. Last December I was there with my parents. They didn’t want to use the kiosks and got in line for a cashier. I used the kiosk to order my meal because I like playing with stuff.

I placed my order, went up to the counter with my receipt, and waited for my food. It came a few minutes later. When I grabbed my tray and turned around to load it up at the toppings bar, my parents still had a few people in front of them in line before they would even be ordering their food.

I was done eating by the time they got to the table.
