This place had the best Cottage Fries (criss-cut fries with seasoning). I think it’s the only thing I ever ate there, because they were usually closed when I would visit. The inside of Space Place (the counter area) later became the ODV Balloon Room, with helium run through the old CO2 lines meant for soda to nozzles that replaced the soda towers. The kitchen portion of the old Space Place became an ODV hot dog production kitchen…this is where the infamous sewage backup occurred in 1998. As of when I left the park, the hot dog operation had moved to a kitchen attached to the Plaza Inn (where there was a huge oven for turkey legs), but balloons were still in Space Place, as well as two walk-in refrigerators which were an alternative place for ODV’s beverage stockers to get bottled sodas with which to stock the carts without having to go all the way behind Splash Mountain to get drinks for the Moonliner or other eastside locations. I believe the balloons have since been relocated as well, though - you’d be able to hear the balloons being inflated from the Space Mountain FastPass distribution area.
